Energy Exploration/Development
Survey's for energy exploration are specific to each project. Whether oil and gas, coal, solar, or wind, the need for energy development is something JFC understands is an important part of our future. We have vast experience with these types of surveys and can help guide the customer thru the federal rules and regulations that govern exploration and development.
Oil and Gas
Surveys for energy development are specific to each project. An overwhelming majority of the surveys are for activities related to oil and gas extraction. JFC has surveyed thousands of well locations for oil and gas exploration. With this extensive experience, JFC is very knowledgeable of both state and federal rules and regulations regarding oil and gas development surveying.
A typical well location is located within a section, at specified footages or coordinates. The well center is first located and surveyed from the nearest identified and located public land survey monuments. Often times, an operator will supply a location that falls within a certain distance or footage for the path of drilling, while also trying to conform to the surrounding terrain. Once the best proposed location is determined, it is surveyed by placing stakes throughout the well location and topography shots for the existing terrain (elevation) data. An access road is flagged while routing to the nearest improved road and the pipeline flagged to the nearest tie-in point. Drawings and exhibits are prepared to show the proposed well location. These drawings include topography maps with proposed access and routes, well pad details, cross-sections, and written travel directions to the proposed site.
Coal
Mineral exploration surveys are specific to each project. JFC has provided surveying services for surface mining at the Jim Bridger Mine, located east of Rock Springs. Surface mine surveys typically are performed to calculate various quantities, overburden, reclamation, and minerals. Typical surveying services include layout of core and drill holes, as expansion progresses. Our personnel have also provided surveying support for mine access road design and layout, as well as conveyor layouts.
